In order to be admitted to the FH Bielefeld, you have to certify that you fulfil all the latest requirements.

Documents/Certificates:
Generally you may expect that your application papers are supposed to consist of at least:
- Secondary School Certificate.
- Evidence of university entrance examination in your home country.
- Evidence of length of studies and certificates of your previous completed exams/degrees.
- Besides, applicants from China need also the APS-certificate (academic clearing office at the German Embassy in Beijing).
- Certificate of basic (and advanced) placement.
Remember to:
Always submit originals or certified copies of your documents, when you send your application papers. If your papers are in a language other than German or English you are also supposed to provide certified translations of those respective documents.

- July 15 for the subsequent winter term (for all courses except ISM).
- January 15 for the subsequent summer term (for ISM, Business Administration, Business Law and Business Administration for Engineers, Social Work and Social Education).
Required language skills:
Pay attention to the fact that:
German universities offer currently a wider range of English degree courses (e.g. IPP International Postgraduate Programmes)! For English degree courses there is no proficiency test in German required !
In order to enrol at a German university on a degree course in German - only then (!) - you are supposed to certify proficient command of the German language. There are various institutions & exams to assist you in this:
- Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH) - German language test for university admissions.
- Test DaF - Test German as a foreign language.
- Sprachdiplome des Goethe-Instituts - Language diploma at the Goethe-Institut.
- Feststellungsprüfung an einem Studienkolleg für ausländische Studienbewerber - Certificate at a "Study college" for international students.
Pay attention to the fact:
If you lack the required language skills, there's still a way. You may access a so-called intensive language course in Germany (with a minimum of 20 lessons per week). In that case you may apply for a specific visa for that purpose at the German embassy consulate in your home country.
Practical training periods/placements:
The University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld values highly practical training and placements. Therefore, most degree courses require the student to involve herself/himself in practical experience on a job during a placement in the field of her/his future study. Evidence of such a placement has to be attached with your application papers. Additionally some degree courses require a second, even more specialised practical training period during an advanced stage of your study. Both, the basic placement and the advanced placement, cover usually a period of three months. The respective certificate is supposed to display the following information:
- Name & address of company/institution/public service department.
- Contact/supervisor & signature/seal.
- Period of the placement.
- Detailed description of the activities you performed.
Pay attention to the fact that:
If you have already done those practical training periods in your home country, the dean of the department of your study will approve your certificate accordingly to the course's requirements. Unless the document certifying your training is written in German or English, you also need a certified translation !
Specific admission requirements at certain faculties:
Faculty of Design
Before being admitted to a design course, be it Photography and Media, Fashion, Graphic and Communication Design, you are supposed to perform an artistic aptitude test. This examination does take place twice a year. Deadlines are May 1 and December 1 of each year.
The respective aptitude test includes creation of an attractive portfolio, a task set as homework, and the passing of a written examination. If you have already successfully passed an aptitude test at an institution in your home country, you might not be supposed to repeating it once more. Instead the decision will be made by the dean of the Faculty of Design. (However, you may take notice, that study places are limited according to the restricted capacity of the faculties.)
Faculty of Business Management/Department: International Studies in Management
In order to be admitted to the Internationaler Studiengang Management/ISM (International Studies in Management), you have to show sound knowledge in both mathematics and one foreign language (English, Spanish or French).
