For all matters concerning your application and your stay in Bielefeld - accommodation, buddies, orientation weeks, official requirements - please get in touch with the International Office. As a student at one of our partner universities you may study in Bielefeld for one or two semesters.
The academic year is divided in to semesters. The winter semester lasts from September to February and the summer semester from March to August.

For incoming exchange students from partner universities:
If you are planning to come to FH Bielefeld as an ERASMUS+ student or any other university partnership or exchange programme, you need to be nominated by your home university beforehand. After that, you need to go through the application process. It is important that you complete your application before the application deadlines.
For free movers:
If your home university does not have a partnership with FH Bielefeld, you are still welcome to apply as a free mover by completing the online application process outlined below.
Online application via Mobility Online
Once you have been nominated by your home university, you will receive an e-mail from the International Office, asking you to register. It is of the utmost importance that you do, so that the further steps can be carried out.
Please apply via the online application portal using the following link: Registration for an Exchange at FH Bielefeld.
You will then be asked to upload the following documents:
- Transcript of Records
- Passport/ ID Copy
- Copy of your health insurance card (EHIC)/ proof of health insurance during your stay in Germany
- Portfolio (only in the Department of Arts and Design)
- Learning Agreement
Once you have completed the online application process, the International Office will evaluate your application and contact you as soon as a decision has been made.

The International Office will assist you in your search for suitable accommodation in the available student halls in Bielefeld.
On the day of your arrival in Bielefeld, each exchange student will meet his or her Buddy - a more experienced student at FH Bielefeld - who will be pleased to assist you with all steps through the official bureaucracy and into everyday life in Bielefeld and at the FH. Various fun trips and events are also organised.
Before the semester officially starts we offer a three-week orientation period. These weeks include a free and intensive German language course and a free culture and leisure programme.
The next orientation weeks for international exchange students will take place from March 10th to March 29th 2018.
