Ultrafett 2021 – David Pearson

Am 14. Juni 2021 spricht der Londoner David Pearson über seine Erfahrungen mit Typografie und Buch-Covern beim Penguin-Books-Verlag.

Never judge a book by its cover—unless the design is by David Pearson. For almost 20 years he’s been working for Penguin Books, starting out with ordinary typesetting. Soon he went above and beyond, making typography the main focus of his practice. His body of work includes the covers of Orwell’s 1984 with fully blackened out typography or an iconic visual for The Robber Bride, displaying a greedy hand stealing the o’s from the title text.

With clear communication in mind, Pearson has become a master of using type as image, inviting us to enter a story even before reading a single word.
