The Institute for Educational and Health-Care Research in the Health Sector (InBVG) at Bielefeld
University of Applied Sciences seeks to employ a

Research Associate.

The institute’s research and development projects address societal challenges in shaping the
health-care system and the consequences for the further development of care. Various projects at
InBVG share the common goal of strengthening the health and self-management of people with
intellectual disabilities. Members of this group are especially vulnerable and studies have shown
that they are at a disadvantage compared to the general population with regard to health
concerns. Health literacy is a core crosscutting topic of the research projects, which discuss a
target group-oriented adaptation of the understanding of health literacy in people with
intellectual disabilities. The cited projects aim at contributing to a more needs-based and useroriented
care design with their results. International exchange is a key component of the work.

The position is to be filled for a period of two years.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Support in international networking, e.g. in coordinating the International Health Literacy Association’s interest group “Health Literacy for People with IntellectualDisabilities and Cognitive Impairment”, planning research visits within the Erasmusprogramme, etc.
  • Systematic literature research in international databases on the topic of digital healthpromotion for people with intellectual disabilities, among others
  • Data entry and evaluation (quantitative)
  • Transferring the results of the GeKo-MmgB project (Explanatory videos for strengthening health literacy among people with intellectual disabilities) in English
  • Contributing to the adaptation of the health literacy concept to people with intellectualdisabilities and supporting the development of expertise on digital health promotion forpeople with intellectual disabilities
  • Publication of results


  • Completed degree in nursing, health or social sciences (master’s degree or equivalent)
  • Experience in implementing research projects
  • Willingness to innovate and design
  • Interest in networking
  • Knowledge of the English language

The ideal candidate should also bring:

  • Experience in research with people with intellectual disabilities
  • Knowledge of health literacy or other health promotion models
