Living Lab for
Smart Energy Applications

Laboraufbau SEAP / AGNES

The Smart Energy Applications (SEAp) laboratory serves to validate intelligent control algorithms for the provision of flexibilities through sector coupling for grids with a high proportion of renewable energies, focusing on the use of Power2Mobility or Vehicle2Grid applications. The lab’s special competencies lie in the modelling of cellular energy systems with a high share of renewable energies, the modelling of flexibilities in the grid and the use of µPMUs in distribution grids. The Hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) test bed in kilowatt range with renewable energy generation (PV and wind), cogeneration, electric vehicle fleet, stationary battery storage, electric load and conventional grid feed-in can be used to develop and test procedures for the autonomous control of grid cells.

SEAp-Neu

The real-time grid simulator provides an API for Python that allows the integration of control algorithms for smart grids into our testbed. These algorithms are validated in HiL. Additionally, we are able to integrate newly developed smart systems into our testbed, to model the integration of renewable energy or electric vehicles into existing grids and to test their effects.

The test bed consists of:

  • Hardware simulations of wind turbines, PV plants, combined heat and power plants.
  • Load simulations
  • Simulations of electric vehicles

Further components are:

  • Fuel cells
  • battery storage
  • real-time grid simulator
  • µPMUs
