It depends on the fabric’s porosity, air voids in the fabric, yarn specifications, thickness and other parameters, making it hard to calculate it reliably from other parameters. At the same time, measuring air permeability requires relatively expensive and complex equipment that cannot simply be built by everybody. Here, we suggest a simple device, which can be built from inexpensive components and correlates air permeability to a time measurement. We show that these values are highly correlated with the results gained by the frequently used standard EN ISO 9237.\r\n "}],"status":"public","file_date_updated":"2023-08-25T20:19:01Z","publication_status":"published","has_accepted_license":"1","publication":"Communications in Development and Assembling of Textile Products","issue":"2","article_type":"original","intvolume":" 4","type":"journal_article","oa":"1","tmp":{"short":"CC BY-NC-ND (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode","image":"/images/cc_by_nc_nd.png","name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)"},"quality_controlled":"1","file":[{"relation":"main_file","creator":"aehrmann","success":1,"date_created":"2023-08-25T20:19:01Z","file_id":"3485","access_level":"open_access","file_name":"_2023_Sabantina_CDATP4_164-170.pdf","date_updated":"2023-08-25T20:19:01Z","content_type":"application/pdf","file_size":467160}],"citation":{"ieee":"L. A critical factor is the adhesion between the printed polymer and the textile fabric, limiting the potential areas of application. Especially safety-related applications, e.g. stab-resistant textile/polymer composites, need to show reliable adhesion between both components to serve their purpose. Here we investigate the possibility of sandwiching textiles between 3D-printed layers, produced by fused deposition modeling (FDM). We show that adding nubs to the lower 3D-printed layers stabilizes the inner textile fabric and suggest future constructive improvements to further enhance the textile-polymer connection.\r\n "}],"has_accepted_license":"1","_id":"2769","publication_status":"published","date_created":"2023-04-18T08:50:29Z","title":"Sandwiching textiles with FDM Printing","file_date_updated":"2023-04-18T08:50:03Z"},{"year":"2022","keyword":["green microalgae","knitted fabrics","Tencel","cotton","linen","oxygen production","Clark electrode"],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://doi.org/10.25367/cdatp.2022.3.p9-16"}],"alternative_id":["1733","2648"],"user_id":"216459","publisher":"Sachsische Landesbibliothek, Staats- und Universitatsbibliothek Dresden","volume":3,"date_updated":"2024-03-27T14:01:14Z","abstract":[{"text":" Microalgae can be used for diverse applications in research and industry. Our results show a significant influence of illumination on both algal species and a smaller impact of the chosen medium, while all knitted fabrics under examination were found well suited as substrates. Mostly, research concentrated on the adhesion between both partners of the composite or on the new freedom of design, enabled by combining these techniques. Here, we present examinations of the influence of elastic 3D printed patterns on the elongation and wearing out of elastic textile fabrics as well as on the tribological properties of the textile surface, comparing pure and imprinted textile fabrics. Therefore, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was 3D printed in different patterns on diverse textile fabrics. Our study shows that for a sufficient adhesion, reached by small enough nozzle-fabric distance, elastic 3D printed patterns can indeed improve the surface resistance against wear.\r\n "}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.25367/cdatp.2021.2.p115-122","citation":{"short":"P. An important prerequisite to use such composites technologically or for design purposes is a sufficient adhesion between both materials. While previous studies revealed that soft, elastic printing polymers were advantageous to prepare connections with a high adhesion, not much research has been performed yet on the dependence of the adhesion on textile fabric structure, heat post-treatment, and the influence of washing, which is necessary for most applications of such composites. Here we investigate composites from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) 3D-printed on two different woven cotton fabrics. Besides the expected strong correlation of the adhesion with the distance between nozzle and printing bed, we find a higher adhesion on the thinner fabric and an increase in the adhesion after one washing cycle.\r\n ","lang":"eng"}],"status":"public","doi":"10.25367/cdatp.2021.2.p34-39","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Störmer_Görmer_Ehrmann_2021, title={Influence of washing on the adhesion between 3D-printed TPU and woven fabrics}, volume={2}, DOI={10.25367/cdatp.2021.2.p34-39}, number={1}, journal={Communications in Development and Assembling of Textile Products}, publisher={Sachsische Landesbibliothek, Staats- und Universitatsbibliothek Dresden}, author={Störmer, Jannik and Görmer, Daniel and Ehrmann, Andrea}, year={2021}, pages={34–39} }","ieee":"J. Besides pure polymers or polymer blends, such nanofibers can also contain metals, ceramics, etc., often introduced in the form of nanoparticles embedded in the spinning solution. Especially in case of magnetic nanoparticles, the physical properties of the whole nanofiber mats will strongly depend on the dispersion of the nanoparticles in the fibers – while small single nanoparticles may show superparamagnetic behavior, larger agglomerations will rather tend to showing ferromagnetic properties. Investigations of the magnetic properties of a sample with high spatial resolution are mostly performed by magnetic force microscopy (MFM). This technique, however, is usually applied on very flat surfaces of thin-film or nanostructured samples. Here, we report for the first time on MFM measurements on magnetic nanofiber mats, proving in principle that this technique can be used to investigate magnetic nanofiber mats, while the highly uneven nanofiber structure still causes large problems which have to be solved in the future."}],"_id":"1631","publication_status":"published","date_created":"2022-01-01T14:45:27Z","title":"Preliminary report on MFM measurements on magnetic nanofiber mats","page":"1-7","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2701-939X"]},"author":[{"first_name":"Raphael","full_name":"Weiss, Raphael","last_name":"Weiss"},{"id":"223776","orcid":"0000-0003-0695-3905","last_name":"Ehrmann","first_name":"Andrea","orcid_put_code_url":"https://api.orcid.org/v2.0/0000-0003-0695-3905/work/105571239","full_name":"Ehrmann, Andrea"}],"department":[{"_id":"103"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Weiss_Ehrmann_2021, title={Preliminary report on MFM measurements on magnetic nanofiber mats}, volume={2}, DOI={10.25367/cdatp.2021.2.p1-7}, number={1}, journal={Communications in Development and Assembling of Textile Products}, publisher={Sachsische Landesbibliothek, Staats- und Universitatsbibliothek Dresden}, author={Weiss, Raphael and Ehrmann, Andrea}, year={2021}, pages={1–7} }","ieee":"R.
