@article{3064, abstract = {This paper examines how social care provider professionals could be supported by decision support systems (DSSs) in social care service planning (SSP). Since DSSs are not yet used in Germany, we rely on interviews with social work professionals to explore expectations and fears about DSSs, and how they could be integrated into professional practice. Our findings support three conclusions. First, DSSs providing visualisations of clients’ development are perceived to support decision-making. Second, there is a need for DSSs to support shared decision-making. Finally, it is crucial not to confound technical reliability with professional reliability.}, author = {Schneider, Diana and Maier, Angelika and Cimiano, Philipp and Seelmeyer, Udo}, issn = {1865-5386}, journal = {Sozialer Fortschritt}, number = {6-7}, pages = {489--511}, publisher = {Duncker & Humblot GmbH}, title = {{Exploring Opportunities and Risks in Decision Support Technologies for Social Workers: An Empirical Study in the Field of Disabled People’s Services}}, doi = {10.3790/sfo.71.6-7.489}, volume = {71}, year = {2022}, } @inbook{1120, author = {Schneider, Diana}, booktitle = {Die neutrale Normativität der Technikfolgenabschätzung: Konzeptionelle Auseinandersetzung und praktischer Umgang}, editor = {Nierling, Linda and Torgersen, Helge }, pages = {117–138}, publisher = {Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. In the welfare context, however, they are still being explored only marginally. The following theoretical discussion draws on the example of the MAEWIN project to explore the challenges of using big data when developing decision support systems in the context of social work. The project reveals some similarities with the well-known challenges of big data research (e.g., with regard to data protection, bias, and handling probabilities).
