{"status":"public","abstract":[{"text":" Polyacrylonitrile can be used as a base material for thermochemical conversion into carbon. Especially nanofiber mats, produced by electrospinning, are of interest to create carbon nanofibers. Optimal stabilization and carbonization parameters, however, strongly depend on the spatial features of the original material. While differences between nano- and microfibers are well known, this paper shows that depending on the electrospinning method and the solvent used, considerable differences between various nanofiber mats have to be taken into account for the optimization of the stabilization conditions. Here, we examine for the first time polyacrylonitrile nanofiber mats, electrospun with wire electrospinning from the low-toxic dimethyl sulfoxide as a solvent, instead of the typically used needle electrospinning from the toxic dimethylformamide. Additionally, we used inexpensive polyacrylonitrile from knitting yarn instead of highly specialized material, tailored for carbonization. Our results show that by carefully controlling the maximum stabilization temperature and especially the heating rate, fully stabilized polyacrylonitrile fibers without undesired interconnections can be created as precursors for carbonization.\r\n ","lang":"eng"}],"title":"Stabilization of polyacrylonitrile nanofiber mats obtained by needleless electrospinning using dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent","date_created":"2021-05-31T18:36:08Z","publication_status":"published","_id":"1055","page":"224-239","author":[{"last_name":"Sabantina","full_name":"Sabantina, Lilia","first_name":"Lilia"},{"last_name":"Klöcker","full_name":"Klöcker, Michaela","first_name":"Michaela"},{"last_name":"Wortmann","full_name":"Wortmann, Martin","first_name":"Martin"},{"first_name":"José Rodríguez","full_name":"Mirasol, José Rodríguez","last_name":"Mirasol"},{"last_name":"Cordero","full_name":"Cordero, Tomás","first_name":"Tomás"},{"first_name":"Elmar","full_name":"Moritzer, Elmar","last_name":"Moritzer"},{"last_name":"Finsterbusch","full_name":"Finsterbusch, Karin","first_name":"Karin"},{"id":"223776","orcid":"0000-0003-0695-3905","first_name":"Andrea","full_name":"Ehrmann, Andrea","orcid_put_code_url":"https://api.orcid.org/v2.0/0000-0003-0695-3905/work/94759306","last_name":"Ehrmann"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1528-0837"],"eissn":["1530-8057"]},"doi":"10.1177/1528083718825315","citation":{"apa":"Sabantina, L., Klöcker, M., Wortmann, M., Mirasol, J.
