TY - JOUR AB - Textile surfaces are, e.g., generated by weaving, stitching or felting; narrow textiles can also be braided. These technologies were always first developed in a manual version and later converted into a machine-based one. Crocheting is one of the very few hand-crafting techniques that are not yet possible by machine (the so-called “crochet machine” is a warp-knitting machine for narrow textiles, other so-called crochet machines can only crochet air stitches) – although with a real crocheting machine the production of completely new structures would be possible which nowadays cannot be produced by other electronically controlled textile machines. The first crocheting machine in the world has now been built as a prototype at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences.
