This talk presents the obtained results of a final project in the Mechatronics Engineering field at Universidad de las Americas Puebla, Mexico. In the Electrical Machines course, as part of the curricula of the Bachelor in Mechatronics Engineering, students design and implement an Electric Scooter. They consider the Product Development Process to complete their final project. They start by defining the problem to solve. Then, they are engaged in a brainstorm of potential solutions. Finally, they build a prototype to test their solution. In the Electric Scooter project, students integrate Mechanical Design, power converters, and a selected electric motor. During this talk, the complete Product Development Process for the Electric Scooter project is explained.

Pedro Banuelos Sanchez. Received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Ecole Superiere d‘Electricite (Supelec), Paris, France, in 2001. He is presently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computation, Electronics and Mechatronics, Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP), Mexico. He has been Associate Researcher at Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France. Visiting Researcher at Appalachian State University and Visiting Professor at Johns Hopkins University in the program Center for Talented Youth (CTY), United States of America. His research interests include high- frequency power conversion, power factor correction techniques, power converters applied to photovoltaic and wind energy, and modeling and control of converters. He holds 3 patents concerning renewable energy and power converters.
